The idea of virtual reality is nothing new. It has been around since the 90's, it was first thought of by the US Air Force as a way for fighter pilots to test flight without having to send them up in expensive fighter planes. Virtual reality replaces your regular reality where you can enjoy full imersive content such as watching a show, movie or game but instead of just simply being the viewer or player. You become part of that world. There was even a Power Ranger spin off TV show related to VR.

Products such as Google Glass & Microsoft Hololens are more so augmented reality devices where you can see GPS maps and directions as you drive, record what you see through your eyes and get weather updates while you are driving and out and about in public.
