Meet
Julie Dexter, a world renowned, award winning, British vocalist
considered by many to be one of the most influential female vocalists of

I know its been hard in the Hip Hop world for struggling artists or just new artists in the music industry in general but we at "COOL VTV" just did our first interview with music industry and Hip Hop veteran "Buckshot" a.k.a "BDIMC" who is also co-owner of one of the hottests Hip Hop labels internationally "Duck Down Records" with his other partner "Dru Ha". We caught up with him in Canada to discuss whats been going on with him and the Duck Down Brand, ( shouts to "DJ Carl Allen") We sat down with him after his speaking engagement at the "Toronto Urban Music Week" where he was interviewed by our host "Rox Star" who conducted a great interview which was filmed by King & Dru (shouts "Cool V TV Staff" excellent footage!) Anyway we got an exclusive and very insightful interview because Buckshot dropped some serious knowledge! (The Kind you attend Music Conferences and pay a grip of money for but don't worry this one is on us!!!)
Buckshot discussed time management, proper distribution, the ethics of the music business and the creative process of staying relevant just to name a few. In today's industry most people really don't know nor truly understand what it takes to run a successful label. Buckshot gives tips on expanding your brand also one of the traits that's so lacking in this business "respecting your staff!" Buckshot also gives you behind the scene secrets of the ever expanding Duck Down brand. He explains to artists that there are avenues that are available that still remained untapped. Buckshot also announces some of the newest people in the DD roster including KRS 1, Talib Kweli, Black Rob, Pharoh Monarch, etc. What I found most refreshing was how he he explained how they have broke out the mold of being known for the a label that's known for just Black Moon, "Boot Camp Click". Buckshot shows the importance of selective marketing and why they are still relevant today with hot artist such as Skyzoo, Marco Polo, Black Milk etc..
While most artists today with all the 360 deals going on are scared stiff to sign to a label he discusses how Duck Down Records are one of few labels that cut checks and that actually pay their artists royalties! Buckshot let artists know that Duck Down Records support and back all their artists while respecting their craft and gets behind them 100% to help market their brand. I love how he also shows artists how to expand their brand with as well as their reach. If you've been looking of ways to expand your brand/label this interview is a must see!
