“You’re Either With us or Against Us” - Save No Soul @JAIoftherise

SAVE NO SOUL - @JAIOFTHERISE

Save No Soul is the idea of unification, every human being is different in each unique way! They may ridiculed, they may be tormented, they might be hard to understand. This is a space for people to be themselves in their truest form. Save No Soul is a rebel/anarchist type of style. “You’re Either With us or Against Us”, and the root of Save No Soul stems from the removal of toxic people in your life, the people that hinder your growth and your potential. - #SNS

History Was Made! Move aside Coachella & SXSW, Pharrell comes home to Virginia and brings his own, Something In The Water Festival!

During the weekend of April 26-28th, Virginia Beach native, producer & music artist, Pharrell Williams, spawned his own music festival held the same weekend as Virginia Beach College Beach weekend to turn around the negative perception that College Beach Week (CBW) had a lot of older and close minded people's minds. (See History of CBW here)

Yours truly and your boy boy, Mr Official Whistle attended. When this festival were first announced we were eager to see Anderson Paak, we had already seen Pharrell and NERD previously a few years ago at Z104's Shaggfest, other artists on the ticket for the 3 day event included artists included Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Jaden Smith, Jhene Aiko, Kaytranada, Maggie Rogers, Migos, Diplo, Deepak Chopra, Radiant Children, Dram, Missy Elliot, Mac DeMarco, Geoffrey Canada, Trap Karaoke, Ferg, SZA, Pusha T, Kaws, Masego, John-Robert, J Balvin, Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals, Pharrell and Friends, Janelle Monae, Virgil Abloh, Pop Up Church Service, Leikeli47, Rosalia, and the Dave Matthews Band at initial time of announcement.

In my experience, Friday was rained out due to series of storms and rains pouring down on the Oceanfront so unfortunately, only event we were able to attend was the Community Shark Tank with Regina Mobley, former TV News Host of WVEC Channel 13 as well as other guest panelists.

Much to everyone's dismay, performers for Friday night's concert were canceled. Shouts to Pharrell and everyone who coordinated the vents of #SITW, they announced on the #SITW app which you could use to keep track of performers, different events such as Trap Karaoke, Adida's Celebrity Basketball game, the Sony experience and Timberland pop up shop to keep track and also get locations to where the different events and activities were at. And through that app they announced a portion of the fund for missed performances canceled for Friday night would be refunded. There was also a can drive and donations for Pharrell's charity organization.

With the weather being much pleasant on Saturday, everyone in attendance for #SITW came out in large attendance. There are no official numbers but I would estimate in thousands and thousands and thousands of people, definitely a huge turnout as people came from not only Virginia but also up from Atlanta, met one couple and their friends from New York, maybe from Maryland, Carolinas and all over the East Coast, it maybe possible some even flew in from other states and the West Coast. After, a reservation issue with website Booking.com, my friend and I made it on Saturday just in time to see one of my favorite acts that I've seen on YouTube, Toronto native music producer and DJ, Kaytranada followed by J.Balvin, SZA and then Pharrell and Friends (which included Tyler the Creator, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Diddy, Usher, Missy, Timbaland, Magoo, N.E.R.D. & Charlie Wilson). The rumors and news stories were correct, Jay Z did indeed to come to the 757! Talk up and down the oceanfront pointed to all the stars Pharrell had invited for #SITW might have been staying at the Cavalier.

Everyone definitely enjoyed Saturday, the weather was great and no rain so what more could anyone ask for. Speaking of Sunday, after resting up from Saturday, due to where our hotel/motel was by the time we made it back to the Oceanfront, we missed Jhene Aiko & Pusha T, there's always another concert or event where I can look forward to seeing them. By the time we had arrived, Sunday acts left included Teddy Riley, Coko from SWV, Lil Duval, Charlie Wilson, Chris Brown & Anderson.Paak.

On Sunday from doing so much walking after Saturday night had concluded, my friend and I sat at a different area where we were closer to the food, drink and concession area. Where we were sitting we had a good view of the video screen to see the stage. We met a few cool peoples and all was good until it became cloudy and we got rained on and everyone had took off running away from the beach. We barely found cover under a side entrance of one of the hotels on the oceanfront. Not only with us but a lot of people who went to Day 2 of Sunday's #SITW did not bring the same ponchos we had prepared for on Friday where the event was rained out. The #SITW app gave no indication that the event would be canceled so we walked around the oceanfront, went to a coffee shop on the oceanfront and got a Chai tea latte. We went back to the beach after the rain cleared up ready to see Chris Brown but mainly an artist that we had tried to see numerous times which was Anderson Paak.

Later on, it rained right before Chris Brown was supposed to take the stage, this time we were able to find a tent to hide under right on the beach where after 20 mins, the event app said Chris Brown and Anderson Paak would close out the event. The rain stopped after 20 mins and we waited to try to see what the weather would do. We enjoyed the Chris Brown performance but it was from a distance. We moved closer to the beach and stage and video screen area once Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals took the stage but unfortunately my friend lost his phone on the beach so we did see Anderson Paak and his band but was not able to fully enjoy the set because we were retracing our steps trying to find his phone. Overall, Pharrell's first #SITW music festival was a success. Friday was rained out and man, don't get me started on our hotel experience on the cleanliness of the room but it was a great time and great weekend. For myself, this is my first experience with #SITW being like Virginia's version of Coachella or SXSW. I know myself and everyone that came out for #SITW and the people of the Hampton Roads and VA Beach area eagerly look forward to the next event. Check out here for more for other blogs in music, entertainment and technology from myself and I will be coming out with a pros and cons of #SITW event for all to read.

Shouts to everyone who helped contributed pics and videos towards this blog in the Something In The Water Facebook group. I was shocked and awed by the amount of participation as a lot of people lended me their pics and videos from the event. Not only for this blog did I use my own pics but there's as well so this is for US here in Virginia as well.
